Sunday May 23rd 2004

Worked all day to make brackets for the camaro master cylinder. The slave is still not going to fit I can tell be looking at it. Camaro master cut at 4 3/4 from firewall. Tap at 3/8" and used bracket off old brake boast off the 73 and two 3/8 nuts.
Tried both sets of headers and neither fit..the long tubes or the block huggers. The long tubes don't have a chance because the slave bracket is right in the way and the block huggers are all over the steering shaft.
OMFG

Monday 24th 2004

I put a level on this piece of pipe and the passanger side valve cover is 2 inches lower.

Found out today why the motor is rotated counter clockwise. There is a mis-print in the JTR book on page 2-3 the says the pic of the setback plate is the passanger side but in fact it is the drivers side. The setback plate with 6 holes goes on the driverside... hmmm. I called JTR and blew them dookie and got a current issue of the book for free.

This is most likey why the slave is on the tunnel so bad and why the block hugger headers dont fit... all that pounding for nothing. Motor/tranny has to come out AGAIN to swap the setback plates around.

Sunday May 30th 2004

Had to pull motor again to swap the setback plates to the right sides. Installed motor again, put 16 gauge 3" x 6" plates on the inside floorboard for the tranny mount to bolt through. Came out good, motor is now level side to side. Headers still dont fit, shorties hit the steering rods still. Thats all we had time for.

Pic of Charlotte by the 73 when it stll ran with stock motor sometime in the later part of 2003 before I painted it.

Monday 31st 2004

worked all day installing the slave, hydraulic line and trying to bleed the clutch...bled it for hrs and still no cluch pedal at all...hmmm.

Today I realized that if the t-5 needs a full dust plate between the tranny and the block we will have to pull the motor again, seperate the motor and tranny to put the dust plate in. It may take a half plate that can be installed after tranny is bolted to motor but I dont thing so...omfg.

Wednesday June 2nd 04 - Found out today 83-92 camaros and firebirds have only a half dust shield. Ordered one from gmpartsdirect.com part #10241153 for .00 shipped.

Pic is of Chance the dog wearing a dress.

Worked on trying to get clutch to work again this Sunday. Tried bleeding some more, tried pumping fuid in from top, tried sucking it in from bottom. The tried bleeding some more. Then we realized that because the after-market flywheel is thinner than a stock flywheel... the fork is too far forward causing the slave to be too far forward and already extended. Going to try and make rod longer and see if that helps. I hate brake fluid..

Sunday June 13th 2004

Worked on randys z in the morning..we fixed the starter problem and adjusted the front end a little.

Finally got the clutch to work. The rod did not need to be longer after all. It did work to put a 4 3/4 inch rod in the bleed the system..bled fast with the longer rod. Then put a standard size 4 inch rod in and it worked great. No leaks and clutch releases well.

During week before and after work

During week I took off the intake and cleaned it, installed with new intake gasket fel-pro 1204 . Installed 10$ dual point accel distributor, took off valve covers to install distributor correcty. Painted valve covers chevy orange and relaced with new valve cover gaskets and new rubber for breather and pcv valve. Installed 600 Holley carb and hooked up vacuum for brake boaster. Cut away sheet metal on shifter hole and installed shifter with new gasket.

Sunday June 20th 2004

All that really happened this Sunday is we came to the conclusion the the two sets of headers i bought will not work and the stock manifolds no workie either.

Went to pick your nose and paid the 2 bucks to get in...could not find any exhaust manifolds that would work. Randy found a nice air dam for his 76z..

Then worked rest of day till 10 PM  to mount radiator.. then looked for the bolts to mount the march water pump  pulley for an hour...they were in the box with the march pulleys under the styrofoam...hmmm

Monday: Ordered the Sanderson Headers from JTR. Hope they work.

Sunday June 27th 2004

Mounted drivers side header...cant remember what else happened...hmmm

Sunday July 4th 2004

Sunday: Installed starter, turned motor over with key..spark plugs out. Looked at the wiring a little.

Sunday July 11th 2004

During week mounted alternator, mounted fans... finished the radiator including the radiator hoses and heater hoses.

Saturday: (holiday I think): I finished the wiring...the starter, distributor. Installed the passanger side header.

Sunday: Put the yoke in the tranny and attached the rearend adapter and measured for the drivline..came out 19 5/8 inches. Took parts back off to take to drivline bob at Pacific truck.... oh yeah, and got shit in my eye.

Sunday July 18th 2004

Randy and Selina went to Vegas for a little fun.

Finished hooking up fuel line. Did up the accel 8mm wires nice. Put some high heat shrink wrap on a couple of the wires near the passager side header.

Worked on the exhaust a little.

Sunday July 25th 2004

Today we got the exhaust hooked up with a Y pipe I made Saturday night after work with my new mig welder. Then we worked on getting the holley red fuel pump hooked up...

Sunday August 1st 2004

...finished the fuel pump. Started the motor for the first time...turned for maybe 2 seconds then started. The holley 600 rebuild carb sucks...so we stuck the old Carter carb with manual secondaries that was on the 327 when I bought it with the Vega...runs like a champ! The holley seems to SUCK!

Monday I made a cable to use as the throttle cable, works pretty good. And the temp gauge was not working. I thought using the stock chevy electric sender with the datun electric gauge might work but no dice so I bought and installed a Auto Meter temp machanical gauge in the space where the clock was Tuesday... works great.

Took it for the first test drive Tuesday August 3rd...ran  good.
